CTE Academy - Districtwide Career and Technical Programs
Over the past four years, we have worked to expand our district-wide opportunities within Career and Technical Education (CTE). These include:
Skilled Trades Pre-Apprenticeship: Located at Peninsula High School during periods 5 and 6, this hands-on program helps prepare students for careers in many trades. Areas include construction, electricity, plumbing, masonry, heavy equipment, and students earn five industry certifications, credit in electives, PE, and math, and learn how to keep fit for physically demanding careers.
Students meet people who work in the fields and learn about their journey; they attend field trips to training centers, apprenticeships, job-sites, and colleges; and they earn a certificate from our partner pre-apprenticeship ANEW. Many of our graduates have gone on to high paying jobs with benefits. Students earn .5 credit in PE and a full third year of math in the Skilled Trades Pre-Apprenticeship program. Students also earn 11 college credits.
Teacher Academy: Located this year at Henderson Bay High School, the Teacher Academy helps inspire students to pursue a career in education. Students are supported holistically in their academic, emotional, social, professional, and cultural identity development as they learn about healthy learning communities, culture and identity, lesson development and assessment, and study classrooms through visits and a practicum.
Students will visit state colleges and teaching programs to help them understand post-secondary options. Students earn English 12 credit for completion of the Teacher Academy. Students also earn 3 college credits,
Navy JROTC/NNDCC: This fall we are launching our new Navy Science program! Located at Peninsula High School, Navy JROTC emphasizes citizenship and leadership development, as well as our maritime heritage, the significance of sea power, and naval topics such as the fundamentals of naval operations, seamanship, navigation and meteorology.
Students are additionally encouraged to participate in activities of community service, academic, athletic, drill and orienteering competitions, field meets, flights, visits to naval or other activities, marksmanship sports training, and physical fitness training. Students earn .5 PE credit for each completed year of the Navy JROTC program.
We will be developing additional short-term and program-length classes that offer industry certification and career-connected learning. Opportunities will vary throughout the year, so stay tuned!
