Welcome Back, HBHS Families!
We’re excited to kick off another great school year and want to extend a special welcome to all the new families joining our Henderson Bay community – we’re so glad you’re here!
We’re also thrilled to introduce two new staff members to our team:
-
Annie McCabe, our new school counselor, brings 25 years of experience, including time at an alternative high school and the last decade at Key Peninsula Middle School. We’re incredibly fortunate to have her on board!
-
Todd Larson, our new PE teacher, joins us from Peninsula High School. We’re excited to welcome him to HBHS and know he’ll be a great fit for our students and school culture.
Looking ahead to the 2025–26 school year, Henderson Bay High School will officially operate as an Alternative Learning Environment (ALE). While this designation sets us up for more flexibility in the future, very little will change in your student’s daily experience:
- We’re returning to our previous bell schedule (Advisory now comes before 1st period – view bell schedule).
- Students will continue taking four classes and one Advisory.
- Staff will still monitor student progress closely, just as we’ve always done.
- The only notable shift is that interventions for students not making progress will now be formally documented, rather than handled informally.
- The ALE structure also opens the door to future flexible learning options.
For a quick summary, check out our One Page Overview.
Below are some important dates to keep in mind as we kick off the school year:
- August 11 – Main Office reopens
- September 2 – Henderson Bay Walkabout, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
(New students and parents are welcome to come in, explore the school, and find your classes)
- September 3 – First day of school (No late start)
- September 4 – Picture Day
(Retake day TBD — attendance is important!)
We’re looking forward to another strong year – welcome back!
