Week of October 18-24, 2026 |
This year, the PSD Playbook has a new look and a new focus. We want to make it easier for families, students, and our community to stay connected to the many things happening across our schools. Each edition will highlight upcoming events, important dates, recent scores, and celebrations from our athletics and activities programs.
Our athletics and activities programs provide students with opportunities to discover their interests, build relationships, develop leadership skills, learn the value of teamwork, and become connected to their school community. Whether students are competing on a field or court, performing on a stage, participating in a club, serving their community, or taking on a leadership role, these experiences are an important part of the educational experience.
Throughout the year, we look forward to highlighting the accomplishments of our students and the people who support them. Thank you to our students, coaches, advisors, directors, families, volunteers, and community members who make PSD athletics and activities possible. Your time, energy, and support make a tremendous difference for our students.
We are excited about the year ahead and all that our students will accomplish. Thank you for being part of the PSD community, and welcome back!

Winning is exciting. Championships are memorable. Rivalries bring communities together.
But what students learn through athletics can last a lifetime.
In PSD, we are strengthening our commitment to education-based athletics, where the development of the student comes first.
That means helping our athletes learn to:
- Lead with character and integrity.
- Handle success with humility and setbacks with resilience.
- Respect teammates, opponents, coaches, and officials.
- Take responsibility for their decisions.
- Balance academic success with athletic commitments.
- Understand the value of teamwork, service, and belonging.
We are working with our coaches and athletic directors to establish consistent expectations across our schools, while recognizing that each program has its own traditions and identity.
Our goal is simple: Every student should leave their athletic experience better prepared for life than when they entered it.

One of the most exciting developments in PSD athletics has been the growth of our Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SALC).
Students from Gig Harbor and Peninsula High Schools are coming together to develop leadership skills, strengthen relationships, and positively influence the culture of athletics.
Through leadership activities, the Winter Athlete Academy, and opportunities to collaborate with fellow athletes, these students are demonstrating that leadership is not defined by a captain's title or the number of points scored.
Leadership is about how you treat others, how you respond to challenges, and the example you set.
We are especially proud of the opportunities SALC creates for students from both high schools to work together.
Different uniforms. Different school traditions. One shared commitment to making PSD athletics better.

Fans, families, and community members play a big part in making matches great. A new Washington law is a reminder that school events must be safe for everyone.
Senate Bill 5272 expands existing state protections against interfering with schools by force or violence, and against intimidating people by threatening force or violence.
Who is now covered: Employees and contractors of public and private elementary and secondary schools, students, and officials (including volunteers acting as officials) at extracurricular athletic events. The law specifically recognizes the people who referee, umpire, and keep score at our games.
What can happen:
• Interference by force or violence is a gross misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500, up to six months in jail, or both.
• A person other than a student who is convicted must stay away from the school or athletic event where the offense happened for 12 to 18 months.
• A student who interferes can face emergency removal. At athletic events, a student may also be excluded from participating in or attending that activity.
The Legislature's stated goal is a safe learning environment where students and staff can focus on learning and competing.
What this means for you: Cheer loudly and support your team, but treat officials, coaches, athletes, and fans with respect. Disagreements with a call are part of sports. Threats and violence are never acceptable.
Questions about athletic event expectations can go to your school's athletic director.
